Fighting erupts in Trincomalee district

Sri Lanka Army troopers stationed in military installations located in Trincomalee town and its suburbs have been firing artillery shells towards Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam held positions in Muthur east and Eachchilampathu divisions in support of ground troops in Maavilaru area as fresh fighting was reported in Maavilaru.

Both sides have been firing artilleries and mortar bombs since evening, sources in the area said. Residents in east port town could hear explosions in Muthur area down south of Trincomalee district, sources said.
