19 detainees released

Nineteen Tamil youths who were arrested by Sri Lanka Army soldiers during a search operation in Chavakachcheri on Friday were relesed Saturday, Human Rights Commission officials said.
T.Surendrarajah, Co-Ordinator of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Jaffna said the youths were handed over to the Kodikamam police on Saturday, after being interrogated by the SLA soldiers at Varanai Brigade camp. The police handed over the youths to HRC, Saturday evening, he said. He said their relatives have been informed about the release. The HRC has received several complaints recently regarding persons who were allegedley arrested by Sri Lankan Governement troops in the Thenmaradchi sector of the peninsula and we are trying to find the whereabout of these persons, T.Surendrarajah said.
