Jaffna Magistrate, academicians visit undergrad under detention

Jaffna Magistrate Mr.R.T.Viknarajah and a group of academicians including Professor Sivachandran, Dean of Art Faculty, and Dr.Sri Satkunarajah of Science Faculty Tuesday visited Mr.Paheerathan, Third Year Art Student who has been kept under detention order in the Special Police Detention Centre located in Kankesnathurai. Mr.Paheerathan is a representative of the Jaffna University Students Union.
Mr.Paheerathan was taken into custody by the SLA soldiers during the cordon and search operation in the Jaffna University recently. Police told Magistrate Mr.Viknarajah that Mr.Paheerathan has been served with a detention order for a period of sixty days and waiting for the instruction from the Attorney General for appropriate legal action against him. SLA soldiers were reported to have damaged the mausoleum located in the premises of the varsity during the search operation. Sri Lanka Army said he was an LTTE activist and they found 15 anti personal mines during the search operation.
