One soldier injured in Vadamaradchchi, Tamil youth shot dead in Kopay

Following a claymore explosion at Idaikkadu in Nelliyadi in Jaffna-Point Pedro Road Thursday soldiers manning the gateways to Vadamaradchchi, Vallai, Mulli in Kodikamam, and Aayam in Chavakachcheri road prevented the movement of about one thousand civilians for about three hours. SLA did not allow the movement of about hundred vehicles. One SLA sodleir was injured in the explosion.
The injured soldier was first admitted to Manthihai Rural Hospital and later transferred to Palaly military hospital for further treatment. A cordon and search was carried out in the area where the claymore explosion took place. However the civilians waited for about three hours at checkpoints were told by SLA soldiers to go back as curfew was re-imposed. Even vehicles belonging to local and international NGO's also returned. Civilians waited till last minute were later allowed to travel after rigorous checking. Meanwhile, a motorbike riding youth was shot dead by two other unidentified motorbike riders at Rajapatha road in Irupalai, Kopay around 3.00 p.m. when the curfew was relaxed in Valikamam area. The youth was shot dead when he took refuge in a nearby house. The body is yet to be identified.
