Two women take cyanide in Jaffna, one dies

Two women took cyanide capsules when a group of soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on routine patrol during curfew hours in Vakaravaththai-Avarankal area in Valikamam East in Jaffna district had attempted to search them on Monday midnight. One woman died instantaneously and the other was admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital in a critical condition, Police informed Mallakam District Judge quoting SLA report.
Police further said in its report that according to SLA authorities that SLA soldiers had noted the suspicious behaviour of these two women. When SLA soldiers attempted to search them, they had immediately swallowed cyanide capsules. One woman died on the spot and other was immediately taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital, legal sources said. The SLA has alleged that these two women were LTTE cadres, sources said
