Liberation Tigers Political Head S. P. Thamilchelvan met Friday with the new Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, retired Maj. Gen. Lars Johan Sølvberg. Mr. Thamilchelvan, talking to press, after the meeting, said that the Tigers discussed the humanitarian crisis as the top priority issue. The closure of A9 is "not a mere violation of the Ceasefire Agreement, but an offence against humanity, denying basic supplies to hundreds of thousands of people," Mr. Thamilchelvan said.
The LTTE would extend cooperation to the ICRC to transport humanitarian supplies through the demarcated land routes, LTTE Political Head reiterated. Thamilchelvan further said that the Government of Sri Lanka was on a war path and said there was no clear position from the Government of Sri Lanka on respecting the CFA. "CFA must be respected one hundred percent and the safety and the security of the people must be respected," LTTE's Peace Secretariat quoted Thamilchelvan as saying to the Head of the SLMM. The meeting with Maj. Gen. Lars Johan Sølvberg took place at the LTTE Political Head Quarters in Kilinochchi and lasted for more than an hour from 10:30 a.m. till 11:45 a.m. The SLMM Head was accompanied by Press and Information Officer of the SLMM, Thorfinnur Omarsson.
