GA's offices remain closed in Vanni

The Government Agent's secretariats in Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi have been closed for the past 3 weeks. Reports from Vanni say that the situation is worsening day by day.

The Eelanatham Tamil daily in its editorial on 30th August criticised the Government of President Kumarathunga's for continuously reducing the amount of rations sent to the Vanni.

The editorial stated further:

"However, recent huge cuts have put the GAs of the area under severe pressure. They have been unable to distribute these minute amounts to the needy. Some of these GAs have been accused, mistakenly by the public of neglecting the starving people. Yet, it appears the Government is not concerned by the problems faced by either the GAs or the starving people, but is more interested in pursuing the military objective with the assistence of cuts in food".
