IDPs cannot be resettled against their wishes - TNA

[TamilNet, Sunday, 17 September 2006, 13:01 GMT]

Mr.Ariyaneththran said so in reply to the statement by S.S. Amir Ali, Minister for Disaster relief Services and the Chairman of the District Development Committee that relief assistance could be given to those IDPs on condition that they should resettle in government held territory.

Mr.Ameer Ali further said the question of transporting food to the SLA controlled areas should be taken up with the Defence Ministry as it has imposed the ban on transportation

He added that there is an acute shortage of teachers but arrangements have been made to deploy displaced teachers from Trincomalee to Batticaloa to serve in the Vaharai schools. The UNICEF has offered free transport to them, he added.
