Northern Ireland peacemaker meets UNP

Prof.Thomas Grant Frazer of the Ulster University's Dept. of political science who had played a role in the peace process in northern Ireland, currently on a visit to Sri Lanka met the leader of the United National Party for discussions yesterday afternoon.
UNP sources said that Mr.Ranil Wickremesinghe told Prof. Grant Frazer that his party is favours unconditional talks with the Liberation Tigers for resolving the conflict. He had also said that his party would support any effort by the government to begin a dialogue with the LTTE unconditionally. Later in the evening the UNP leader, while addressing a party rally at Hulftsdorp in Colombo, said that he would stop the war if he were to be elected to power but that he will not permit the division of the country.
