Three Sinhala masonry workers from Monaragala in the South, who work in a post-tsunami construction project in the Kaluwela area in Komaari in Amparai district, were injured, two of them seriously, when an unidentified assailant hurled a hand grenade at them around 9.00 p.m. Thursday, sources said.
The attack occurred while A.M. Shantha, 35, Thayanantha, 45, and Ariyasena, 60, were busy preparing the dinner. The men have been admitted to Poththuvil District Hospital, medical sources said. Special Task Force (STF) sources blamed LTTE for the attack. However, civil sources of the area said that the attack was carried out by the STF to blame the LTTE, and to shift the international focus from the recent killing of 10 Muslims in Poththuvil. Civil sources also pointed out that two STF camps are situated within 2 km from where the attack occurred. Komaari, a Tamil village, is situated 75 km southeast of Batticaloa.
