Bodies of five civilians given decent burial in Thenmaradchy

Bodies of five displace civilians from Thenmaradchy, killed following the 11 August clashes between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Liberation Tigers and unclaimed by their relatives, were given decent burials after postmortem examinations and death inquiries were conducted Saturday, legal sources in Jaffna said.
Three members of the same family, Kopalasingham Balakumar, 19, and Mahendran Manohari, 21, who were displaced from Vidathalpallai in Mirusuvil and living in Kachchai Road Kodikamam, and Nageswaran Naguleswary, 13, were killed when their home was destroyed by a shell during the August clashes.
Their bodies were recovered under the supervision of Chavakachcheri Magistrate, Mr Annalingam Premshanker, and after the mandatory medical and legal procedures, were buried Saturday, sources said.
Bodies of Rasiah Nihithan, 29, from Aathisudi Road in Kachchai near Kodikamam, who was shot dead during August clashes, and Leonard Joseph, 48, from Jaffna who was killed by a shell while he was visiting relatives in Thavasikulam in Thenmaradchy, were also recovered during the presence of Chavakachcheri Magistrate and buried after requried medical and legal procedures Saturday, sources in Jaffna said.
Meanwhile, sources in Jaffna said that artillery exchanges between SLA are taking place in Thenmaradchy from Friday night. SLA has been firing shells from Palaly and artillery-base in Eluthumadduval towards Forward Defense Lines (FDLs) and the LTTE targetting SLA posts from LTTE-controlled areas in Thenmaradchy till noon Saturday, sources added.
