A civilian from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled Mankikaddu in Batticaloa district was seriously injured in artillery attack launched from the Vavunativu Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp in Batticaloa on the LTTE territory on Monday around 5:00 a.m., residents in Mankikaddu said. At least 5 houses in the area were damaged in artillery and mortar fire.
Sinnathamby Sivanathan, 42, is the family man seriously injured. He is presently admitted to Batticaloa hospital. The SLA attack was immediately retaliated by the LTTE, damaging some of the sentry points of the SLA. SLA attacks from their camps in Vavunativu, Black Bridge and Pulipainthakal on the LTTE controlled areas were continuing since the beginning of last week, according to civilian sources. Both, the Tigers and the SLA, maintain that they were not the first to attack.
