Telecom worker abducted in Trincomalee

A Data Entry operator attached to the NorthEastern Provincial Telecommunications Headquarters in Trincomalee was abducted by a group of unidentified gunmen, Monday midnight, officials said. Premkumar, 35, a father of 2 children from Kallady, Batticaloa, was at his quarters when the gunmen abducted him after binding the watcher.
Employees at the Telecommunications office boycotted work Tuesday, and marched to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Office (SLMM) and handed over a memorandum condemning the abduction, sources said. The marchers also lodged a complaint at the Trincomalee Police. Premkumar has been an employee with the Provinicial Telecommunications office for nearly ten years, officials said. Motivation behind Premkumar's abduction is not known.
