"White Van Squad" abducts two Tamils in Chilaw

Unidentified armed men came in a "White Van" abducted two Tamil civilians on Tuesday night around 11:10 p.m. in Ward No.6 area opposite Udappu Tamil Vidiyalayam, according to a complaint made by the abductees' relatives with the Munthal police.
The abductees are Thamotharan Mahendran, 43, a member of the Trustee Board of Udappu Parthasarathi Perumal Temple and Subramanian Paramasivam, 45, a temple employee, said Munthal police. Mano Ganeshan, Colombo district parliamentarian and the leader of the Western People's Front has brought this to the attention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) saying that the continuing abductions despite the promise made by President Mahinda Rajapakse to look into this violation of human rights make him deeply concerned. Mr.Mano Ganeshan has requested the President to take immediate action to have the abductees released. The abducted men had been interrogated about six months earlier by the police.
