SLFP, UNP talks would end positively- G.L.Peiris

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) expressed confidence Thursday that talks between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the UNP would be brought to successful conclusion in formulating a common agenda in resolving national issues giving top priority to the ethnic crisis.

Professor G.L.Peiris, former Constitutional Affairs Minister in the then United National Front (UNF) government and now a UNP parliamentarian addressing a press conference Thursday said both main political parties would come to an agreement before the end of October in formulating the common agenda. The talks could not be allowed to drag on further, Peiris said

The third round of talks between the SLFP and UNP are scheduled for October 3 on the formulation of a common agenda on national issues. Earlier two rounds of talks in this regard concluded in a positive note, according to joint communiqués issued by the two parties after conclusions of these talks.
