TNA parliamentarians continue sit-in-protest third day

The sit-in-protest by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians continued for the third day Friday in the Sri Lanka's parliament demanding the immediate re-opening of the A9 landroute connecting the Jaffna district with the rest of the country and the lifting of economic embargo on the Jaffna population since the fresh fight broke out between the government troops and the LTTE on August 11, parliamentary sources said.

TNA parliamentarians walked into the well of the house in front of the Speaker's podium soon after parliament resumed its sittings on Wednesday with black bands in their arms.

Mavai Senathirajah, Jaffna district parliamentarian and the general secretary of the ITAK before commencing the third day protest said that his party would launch a vigorous protest campaign if their non-violent protest in the parliament failed to provide positive response to their demands, parliamentary sources said.

Meanwhile a Vote of Condolence for the death of former parliamentarian Mr.A.Chandra Nehru was tabled in the parliament Wednesday.

Chandrakanthan, son of the slain Chandra Nehru who represented the Amparai district in the last parliament in the TNA ticket was sworn in as the new national list MP of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) last Wednesday filling the vacancy created by the assassination of Joseph Pararajasingham that took place on the Christmas day in a church in Batticaloa when he attended the midnight mass.
