Jaffna govt. offices close

The offices of the Assistant Commissioner of Election and the Registrar of Motor Vehicles in Jaffna announced yesterday that they will not function until further notice.

The office of the Assistant Commissioner of Elections for Jaffna put up a notice in the Jaffna Kachcheri that the extraction of voters lists for applicants would be stopped forthwith.

The Assistant Commissioner of Motor Vehicles for Jaffna also put up a notice in the Kachcheri that all its functions in Jaffna have been discontinued temporarily until further notice and that all documents received from civilians have been sent to Colombo for processing.

Informed Sri Lankan sources in Jaffna, however, said that the sudden announcements were connected to certain instructions issued by the Liberation Tigers this week to the Jaffna Kachcheri.
