TNA's sit-in-protest in Sri Lanka's parliament enters fifth day

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians Wednesday continued their sit-in-protest for the fifth day Wednesday in Sri Lanka's parliament demanding the immediate opening of the A-9 land route to Jaffna district linking other parts of the country and lift economic embargo on the Jaffna population since the fresh fight broke out between the Sri Lankan troopers and the LTTE on August 11.

TNA parliamentarians led by its group leader R. Sampanthan entered the well of the House when the parliament resumed its sittings Wednesday morning with black bands and sat on the ground just in front of the Speaker's podium.

The normal business of the House commenced immediately after Speaker W.J.M.Lokkubandara, occupied his seat.

However the Speaker adjourned the sitting for about ten minutes when members of the house could not tolerate the bad smell emanate inside the House. Security officials were deployed to find out the reason for the bad smell, parliamentary sources added.
