The Sri Lankan Police Department's Counter Subversive Unit in Vavuniya found a youth chained and locked up in the room of an abandoned house in a suburb of the town last night when the raided the place on a tip off.
The youth has told the CSU that he had been abducted by the PLOTE two weeks ago. The house, according to Police sources, had been used as a torture chamber and detention camp by the PLOTE. The youth had revealed to the CSU that 35 youth had also been held in the house by the PLOTE. All of them, according to the youth, had been taken away by the Tamil para-military group before the CSU raided the place. Police sources said that he was 28 years old but declined to divulge his identity. The PLOTE in Colombo, however, said that they were not aware of any such raid by the CSU in Vavuniya.
