Two caught in Eravur bomb explosion succumb to injuries

Two of the six injured in the bomb blast on Thursday morning in a vegetable field located on Chelvi Cinema Theatre road in Chenkalady in Eravur police division in Batticaloa have succumbed to injuries. The 2-year old, Kandasamy Rajkumar, died on Friday while Sathananthan Yasothini, 16 ,died on Monday hospital sources said.
Five others injured during this incident were admitted to Batticaloa teaching hospital and later transferred to Pollanaruwa hospital where they are undergoing additional treatment. Kanagasooriyam Rajendran, 40, Sathananthan Maithili, 19, Sathananthan Yaso, 16, Kanthasamy Shanthini, 14 and Kanthasamy Shantharoopan, 11 were identified as the injured, said hospital sources. Mr Rajendran and the children tend to the vegetable garden, and pick vegetables every morning, police investigations revealed. The bomb was concealed in a plot of spinach in the vegetable garden. Eravur is situated 15 km north of Batticaloa town.
