Exhumed Muthur aid workers' bodies buried again

Eleven bodies of seventeen aid workers of the French based non-governmental organization "Action against Hunger" killed in Muthur in the first week of August were brought back to Trincomalee from Colombo after second post-mortem held in the presence of an Australian forensic expert. Bodies of six aid workers were not exhumed as the court did not get the consent of their relatives.

Bodies were later handed over to the relatives in the presence of a magistrate.

Four bodies were exhumed on the orders of the Anuradhapura Magistrate on September 16 and seven bodies on October 17. Second post-mortem examinations of all eleven bodies were held from October 22 to October 25 in the Colombo police morgue by Anuradhapura Judicial Medical Officer Dr.D.L.Waidyaratne under the observation of an Australian forensic expert.

Second post-mortem examination reports are to be submitted in the Kantalai magistrate' court on a date fixed by the Anuradhapura Magistrate, Wasantha Jinasena who has been appointed specially by the Sri Lanka's Judicial Services Commission to conduct the inquiry into the massacre of aid workers.
