"Many ask why we have not begun military offensives against the Tigers and we said that we have been patient for long," said the PM. "We can no longer remain patient. We have therefore decided to launch offensives on the north and east by land, sea and air," added Wickremanayake. "Ours is a government elected by the people and it is our duty to protect them. Mr. Pirabakaran thinks only he is right. The Tigers are threatening a democratic government with weapons, and we cannot allow this situation to continue," said the Prime Minister. Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) ministers, parliamentarians and officials of the the Defence Ministry were present at the function.
