JVP to meet Rajapakse Tuesday

The Sinhala Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is reported to have agreed to meet Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse on Tuesday to discuss matters related to latest political development in the island, political sources in Colombo said. This will be first the time both party leaders are to meet since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP), main constituent of the United Peoples Alliance (UPFA) government, and the main opposition United National Party (UNP).

The JVP conducted a campaign called "Peoples Debate" in most parts of the Sri Lanka's south attacking Rajapakse government as not having a consistent policy. "People Debate" campaign concluded Sunday, 5 November.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka's parliament is also to meet on Tuesday to debate extending the State of Emergency in Sri Lanka for another month.

The State of Emergency was introduced on August 12 last with the assassination of Mr.Lakshman Kadirgamar, former Foreign Minister and is being renewed monthly with the expressed approval of Sri Lanka's parliament.
