Northeast de-merger issue to dominate parliament sitting

Sri Lanka's parliament is to resume sitting Tuesday morning amid speculation in political circles that the government is likely to bring a motion soliciting the position of the parliamentarians from all parties on the Supreme Court ruling that rendered invalid North East merger, parliamentary sources said.
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) abandoned its protest in parliament last
month on the Supreme Court ruling giving time to the government to reveal its stand when the parliament meets on November 7. Meanwhile, the parliamentary group meeting of the TNA is scheduled to meet Monday to decide its course of action in the parliament on Tuesday
regarding the de-merger issue and the opening of the land route A9 to Jaffna peninsula. A motion to extend the State of Emergency for another month is also to be tabled in parliament on Tuesday by the Prime Minister.
