Assassination attempts on two civilians fail in Mannar

Unidentified armed men following a Tamil trader and a youth in the Nanattan division in Mannar fired at them missing hitting the intended victims in two separate incidents , Sunday sources in Mannar said.
In the first incident a businessman, who is a father of four children, was riding in his motor bike with his wife on pillion to Semmantivu, when armed men following the couple in a motor bike fired at them. The trader rode inside the office of non-governmental organization (NGO) located nearby and escaped. Armed men had fled from the site when large number of residents gathered on hearing cries of trader's wife. One week before some armed men had entered his shop and took a photograph of him. A Tamil youth escaped death in the second incident that took place Sunday at Valkaipattankandal village in Nanattan division in a similar incident when two armed men riding a motor bike fired at him. He escaped unharmed, sources said. Motivations for both attempted killing are not known.
