SLMM head visits Mannar

The head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), Major General Lars Johan Solvberg, Thursday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. arrived in Mannar by land and held discussions with SLMM monitors in Mannar district office. The discussion centred on the ground situation prevailing in the district. He left Mannar to Colombo around 1:30 p.m. the same day, sources said.
Major General Lars Johan Solvberg did not meet government and military officials in the district in this first visit to Mannar as the new head of the SLMM, sources said. Major General Lars Johan Solvberg, earlier he held discussion with the LTTE leadership in Killinochchi regarding the alternate proposal by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) to open a land route to Jaffna peninsula through Pooneryn-Sangupiddy road from Killinochchi instead of re-opening Muhamalai checkpoint on A-9 highway, sources said.
