Stranded pilgrims in Madhu taken to Mannar[TamilNet, Friday, 10 November 2006, 12:30 GMT]Six hundred of the more than 1000 pilgrims from Jaffna, stranded in Madhu after the close of the A9, were taken to Mannar town in busses organized by the Mannar District Government Agent, Mr.V.Visuvalingam Friday morning through Uyilankulam check point, sources in Mannar said. The remainng pilgrims have been held back in Madhu area due to lack of transport facilities, sources said. The returnees have been provided with shelter facilities in Mannar St.Sebastian Cathedral premises until they are sent to Jaffna. Mannar Divisional Secretary Ms. Stanley de Mel has taken steps to provide cooked meals to these pilgrims. These pilgrims were staying in temporary shelters provided by the Madhu church authorities since August 15, sources said Chronology:
