One youth shot dead, another injured in Batticaloa

Two unidentified armed men on motor cycle shot two youths Saturday around 7:35 p.m at a bus stop at Araiyampathy in Kathankudy police division in Batticaloa district seriously injuring both, Kathankudy police said. One of the youths succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Batticaloa hospital and the other is being treated at the hospital, the police added.
The dead youth was identified as Krishnapillai Mohanadas, 24 and the injured is Amirthalingam Thineshkar, 22, both cousins and residents of Selavnagar in Araiyampathy. The cousins, after finishing work at Mohanadas' father's hotel on Araiyampathy Main street, sat talking at the bus stop close to their house as they usually do, when the gunmen shot at them at close range, the police said. Kathankudy police are investigating into the shooting. The dead body is kept at Batticaloa hospital morgue. Araiyampathy is situated 7 km south of Batticaloa town.
