Body with gunshot wounds recovered in Batticaloa

The body of a youth with hands bound and gun shot wounds was recovered by Eravur Police in Sithandy in Murkodanchenai Monday morning. Bullet wounds in the victim's head indicated a T-56 gun was used in the killing, police said.
The victim was identified as Selvam Ravichandran, 25, of Sithandy Murugan temple road, a father of one child, the police said. Armed men abducted Ravichandran Friday at Chenkalady where he had gone to meet a sub-agent regarding his travel abroad, his relatives said. The body was transferred to Eravur district hospital for post-mortem examinations. The body was later handed over to Ravichandran’s relatives after inquest into the death was held. Meanwhile, unidentified armed men attacked Murakodanchenai Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp with gun and mortar fire on Sunday around 7:30 p.m seriously injuring three SLA troopers. The SLA troopers opened fire but the attackers escaped unhurt. T. M. S. Anurakumara, 30, W. G. R. Upasena, 25 and R. T. A. Piyasena, 26 were identified as the injured troopers. They were rushed to Polanaruwa hospital. The SLA soldiers cordoned off and searched around the camp Monday morning. No one was arrested.
