Kilinochchi remembers Raviraj

[TamilNet, Thursday, 16 November 2006, 00:07 GMT]
"Nadaraja Raviraj went to the doorsteps of his people, observed their living conditions, understood the daily struggle of our people, and exposed the atrocities and human rights violations committed against the Tamil people by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL). His activities were a threat to the extremists who have succeeded in taking his life," said C. Ilamparithi, the Jaffna political head of Liberation Tigers, Wednesday in an event held to remember the slain parliamentarian, held at Kilinochchi Cultural Hall, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, sources in Kilinochichi said.

S. Parthipan, President of the Federation of Kilinochchi District People Organizations, presided the meeting and E. Pararajasingham Head of Tamileelam Judiciary, inaugurated the event, lighting the traditional lamp. S.P. Thamilchelvan, the Political Head of LTTE, S. Thamilini, the head of the LTTE's women political wing, Vettiyarasan, head of Business consortium, garlanded the portrait of late N. Raviraj.

C. Ilamparithi, speaking at the event said: "Many noble people, fearing danger to their lives, disengage themselves from helping their struggling community, while a few accept the inherent risks in their pursuit to help their own people. Raviraj was one such brave person who dedicated his life for his people.

"Killing of Raviraj and Vaharai killing of refugees have brought a diplomatic crisis to the GoSL, and have earned the wrath of the international community," Ilamparithi added.

"Unprovoked mortar attack on the Head of Sri Lankan Monitoring Mission (SLMM), in Pooneryn, exposed the nature of Sri Lanka Army's (SLA's) approach to war. The audacity of the attack was a clear demonstration of the threats faced by unarmed civilians caught up in areas of conflict lying within SLA artillery range," Ilamparithy said.

Mr. Rasanayagam, the Government Agent of Kilinochchi district, and key Tamil activists S. Siril and K. Chandrasekara also spoke at the event.
