Foreign diplomats, aid agencies to embark on Humanitarian Mission to Jaffna[TamilNet, Monday, 20 November 2006, 10:30 GMT]Australian High Commissioner Greg French, Switzerland Ambassador Ruth Flint and the British Deputy High Commissioner Lesley Craig, together with the representatives from the European Commission Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) are scheduled embark on a Humanitarian Mission to Jaffna Tuesday and Wednesday to evaluate the humanitarian situation prevailing in Jaffna, informed sources said. The Ambassadors, their Deputies and Development Officers of the aid agencies are scheduled to meet Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Saundaranayagam, Bishop of Jaffna, Government Agent of Jaffna Mr. K. Ganesh, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission officials, and UNHCR representatives in Jaffna. The delegation would also visit two IDP welfare centres, a hospital and a fishing facility. In a tightly scheduled humanitarian trip to Jaffna, the officials are also scheduled to pay a visit to the warehouse of the World Food Programme (WFP).
