Indian Foreign Secretary meets Rajapakse

Indian Foreign Secretary Mr. Shiv Shankar Menon Thursday evening met with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and conferred with him about the current political and conflict situation in Sri Lanka, political sources in Colombo said.

Secretary Menon is reported to have conveyed to Mahinda Rajapakse about the serious concern of the Indian Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the NorthEast. Earlier he held discussions with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mr.Mangala Samaraweera, Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse and his counter part Mr.M.G.Palikkahara, according to political sources in Colombo. Secretary Menon arrived in Colombo Wednesday night around 11:00 p.m. on a two day official visit as an emissary of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to hold talks with the leaders of the Government of Sri Lanka and leaders of political parties related to the ongoing ethnic conflict.
