Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse and Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP), are expected to hold discussions on Tuesday on deteriorating security situation and the prospect of peace process, political sources in Colombo said.
Colombo political circles speculate the meeting between the two leaders after their return from Indian visit would be critical to future trajectory of Government's handling of the peace process. The agenda is expected to include the appointment of a high-powered monitoring committee on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP), main constituent of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the UNP few months ago, sources said. Meanwhile Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe is expected to pay a ten-day visit to United States of America (USA) after the meeting, Colombo media sources said.
