Boycott against Jaffna busstand relocation called off

The three day boycott by the employees of the Jaffna Transport Board (CTB) protesting against the relocation of the Jaffna Central Bus Terminal to Pannai Bridge area by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) ended Wednesday after an agreement was reached between the SLA and the CTB officials in talks held during the last three days, CTB officials said.

According to the consensus reached in the talks held with the SLA authorities at Palaly Military base and in Jaffna SLA Head Quarters, the parties agreed to the following arrangements:

Only seven buses plying on seven different routes will be allowed to take in passengers at the Pannai Bus Terminal simultaneously.

All the other buses have to be parked in a place at the Pannai Bridge area assigned by the SLA and only when one of the seven buses leave the bus terminal another will be allowed to take its place.

Directions to the buses should be given using the telecommunication between the CTB Jaffna Terminal office and the temporary office of the Pannai Bridge Terminal.

Passengers to Jaffna town from various destinations may be allowed to disembark at the Jaffna Bus Terminal and the buses after which should get to the parking lot at Pannai Bridge.

The SLA has permitted the CTB office, fuel station, reparation garage and employees rest rooms to continue to function in the Jaffna Central Bus Terminal.

Meanwhile, the SLA has ordered all private passenger service vehicles to operate from the place allocated to them in the Pannai Bridge area as usual.
