Military solution not possible - paper

A Sinhala language news paper, Yukthiya, says in its weekly issue of September 20th, that majority of the population in the country believes that a military solution to the conflict is not possible.

Quoting an opinion poll carried out by Colombo University's social scientists' union on whether people favor a military or a political solution to the crisis, the paper said that most people believed that a military solution to the ethnic conflict was not possible.

The poll, which was conducted in many districts across the island, revealed that more than half the people believed in a political settlement through devolution, said the paper.
