Unidentified persons triggered a claymore device Wednesday around 12:10 p.m, concealed in a rubble heap along the A9 route at Thandikulam in Vavuniya, seriously injuring a Sri Lanka Army (SLA)trooper who was first rushed to Vavuniya hospital and later transferred to Anuradapura hospital for further treatment, Vavuniya police said.
The claymore attack, targeting the SLA troopers on a tractor, took place close to the site near Thandikulam Agriculture Farm School where five SLA troopers including an officer were killed on November 18 in a similar claymore attack. Following the attack on November 18, SLA soldiers manning a check post close to Thandikulam Agriculture Farm School in Vavuniya entered the school premises, lined up the uniformed hostel students who were engaged in practicals and shot at them, killing four students, 3 Tamils and a Muslim, and wounding nine.
