The assistant postmistress of the Sithaandy Post Office who was arrested by the Valaichenai Police on Saturday September 19 was taken to Kandy this morning for further investigations. Sithaandy is a large Tamil village about 22 kilometers north of Batticaloa patrolled by the SLA frequently to intercept the LTTE groups that ford the lagoon here.
Police sources said that she was arrested on suspicion that she has links with the Liberation Tigers. The postmistress, Thuraichchaamy Saanthi, was arrested along with the postman, K.Sangarapillai. The latter was released the same day. Saanthi was taken by the Liberation Tigers for questioning two months ago for allegedly maintaining a close link with the SLA. The LTTE, according to source, had released her two days later.
