4 civilians killed in Amparai[TamilNet, Monday, 01 January 2007, 23:45 GMT]Four bullet ridden bodies of abducted civilians, two in the nearby jungle area and two near the Post Office, were recovered by Police Monday evening in Damana in Amparai district, sources in Amparai said. Unidentified persons abducted 5 civilians from Damana area Saturday and killed four of them, except an 18 year old boy, Police said. The victims were identified as Ms. M. Kusumavathy, 65, Ms. K. Mallika, 44, T.M. Suthubanda, 60, and A. Karunarathne, 54. Damana Police handed over the bodies to the relatives after the inquest held at Amparai General Hospital. Motives for the killing are not known. Meanwhile, an employee of the Bugmitiya Post Office on his way to work was injured when unidentified persons fired at him at Bugmitiya in Damana Police division around 10:15 a.m. Monday. He was admitted to the Amparai General Hospital, hospital sources said. Damana is located 9 km south west of Amparai.
