SLMC to join UPFA government

The leadership of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) is completing formalities towards joining the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government led by President Mahinda Rajapakse, SLMC general secretary, M.T.Hassan Ali told media persons in Colombo Sunday.
Preliminary discussions between delegations of the UPFA government and SLMC were held Friday. Basil Rajapakse, brother of Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse led the government delegation and Rauff Hakeem, leader of the SLMC led the SLMC, political sources in Colombo said. Mr. Ali further said on Sunday that the politburo of the SLMC is scheduled to meet Sunday evening or on Monday to finalize the arrangement to sign the Memorandum of Understanding by the two parties, media sources said.
