Abducted man's body recovered in Jaffna

Kopay police recovered Thursday morning the body of a man abducted from Inuvil east Wednesday by unidentified armed men in a white van. The family man is from Inuvil east in Valigamam, near Inuvil Illanthali Amman Temple and his body was found near Urumpirai Temple area Thursday morning, nearly 4 km away from the place of abduction

The abductors had either shot dead or stabbed to death the victim before dousing his body with petrol and setting fire to it, local residents said.

The victim, whose entire body except the face was scorched, was identified as Nagenthiram Arumaithasan, 32, a broker dealing in motor cycles, police said.

Arumaithasan's wife was able to identify her husband as his face was still identifiable. They have been married for one year.

The body is kept at the Jaffna Teaching hospital morgue and Jaffna Magistrate has ordered post mortem to be held.

Arumaithasan had gone on his motor cycle from home Wednesday when the armed men abducted him forcibly near Inuvil Illanthali Amman Temple. His abandoned motor cycle was recovered Thursday from the site of abduction.

Other residents tried to prevent the armed men abducting Arumaithasan but on being threatened with weapons, had given up their attempt.
