38 persons arrested in Hambantota

Thirty-eight persons, majority of them natives of North-East, were arrested in a combined cordon and search operation conducted in Hambantota town in the southern province by the three Sri Lanka armed forces and Police, Friday.

Tight security measure has been introduced in the southern Sri Lanka in connection with the International Development Conference scheduled to be held at Light House Hotel in Galle, capital of the southern province on January 28 and 29, police sources said.

Cordon and search operation was conducted in Hambantota under the new security measure.

Representatives of donor countries to Sri Lanka will attend the conference. President Mahinda Rajapakse will declare open the conference.
