Confusion surrounds Kilinochchi fighting[TamilNet, Sunday, 27 September 1998, 18:15 GMT]Speculation continued to mount in Colombo about the degree of damage the Liberation Tigers inflicted on the SLA in Paranthan today. The army raised its casualty figure to 19 killed in action this evening amidst unconfirmed reports that the Liberation Tigers have completely overrun at least one brigade defending the western sector of Paranthan. Ex-Tamil militant sources in Jaffna said that the army requisitioned a large number of buses and lorries from Jaffna town this afternoon to bring in the casualties from the Paranthan- Elephant Pass base complex. Sources in Palai, the civilian centre in Jaffna closest to the base complex, said that the boom of artillery and mortar fire was heard until 6 p.m. this evening.
