Fourteen security officers employed at Vantharoomoolai Eastern University of Sri Lanka (EUSL), detained by Eravur Police since Jan 31 claymore attack, were released on bail by M.H.M.Amijr, Batticaloa District court Magistrate, when the detainees were produced before the courts Thursday, legal sources in Batticaloa said.

Acting Vice chancellor (VC) N.Pathmanathan had earlier announced that the academic activities can resume only after the release of these employees and meanwhile, only the administrative functions will be conducted.

Eleven people including civilians, police and SLA troops were killed during the claymore attack on a military convoy opposite the university campus while 15 others were injured.

Following the incident 58 people including undergraduates, university lecturers and non academic staff were arrested by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and handed over to Eravur police.

All except 14 employees were released after investigation resulting in the complete breakdown of academic activities of the university.
