Travellers who were stranded in Jaffna following the cancellation of all civilians flights to Jaffna will be sent to Colombo by ship on the basis of priority according to a decision taken today at a crucial meeting convened by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence (MoD) to discuss the transport crisis in the north.
The stranded passengers will be sent to Colombo by a merchant ship the 'Wadduwa' said MoD officials this evening. Government officials on urgent business will be sent by military transport they added. It was also decided at this meeting that no civilians flights should be permitted to fly between Colombo and Jaffna until the fate of the Lion Air plane that fell into the seas off northern Mannar last Tuesday has been satisfactorily investigated.
