SLA vehicle feared damaged in Uduvil Claymore attack

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) vehicle is feared to have sustained severe damages, and an unknown number of SLA soldiers from the intelligence wing were feared injured or killed in a claymore attack triggered by unknown men at 8:45 p.m. Saturday near Uduvil junction in Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said. Although the SLA claimed that the explosion occurred after the vehicle has passed the area few minutes earlier, local residents said that there was evidence of blood and shattered glass fragments indicating serious vehicle damage and injuries to personnel.

Residents added that SLA had time to move the damaged vehicle and remove the injured in the cover of darkness, surrounded by empty streets cleared of public due to the curfew.

Uduvil incident is the second attack targetting movement of SLA officers of important centers of SLA intelligence wing in Jaffna, sources said.

In an earlier attack on 8 February, several SLA troopers were feared killed in a claymore attack on a bus carrying SLA soldiers along Palaly Road, less than 50 meters from Urelu SLA camp at 10:30 p.m. during curfew hours.

SLA Palaly command did not release any details of the Urelu attack.
