Young woman shot dead, husband injured in Valvettithurai

Unidentified gunmen shot and seriously injured a young woman and her husband living at Urani Housing Scheme in Valvettithurai (VVT) in Jaffna peninsula, around 9:30 p.m., Saturday. The woman succumbed to her injuries at Manthikai hospital.
The victims were identified as Nirthika Paramsothi, 21, and her husband S.Paramsothi, 23. The young couple were shot at when they came out of their house to wash their hands after dinner, Saturday, civilian sources told TamilNet. They were first taken to VVT hospital and later transfered to Manthikai Government Hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries. Paramsothi was then taken to Jaffna teaching hospital and admitted at the Intensive Care Unit in a critical situatation, according to hospital sources. The young couple had been living at Urani Housing Scheme for the last 6 months, the civilian sources said. The Urani Housing Scheme is located behind Valvettithurai Government hospital in the Vadamaradchi sector of the Jaffna peninsula.
