Youth shot dead in Amparai

Unidentified armed men called a youth out of his house at Karaithivu in Sammanthurai police division in Amparai district Saturday around 9:30 p.m and shot him dead with a pistol, Sammanthurai police said.

The victim was identified as Thilainayagam Theepan, 18, a mason, and a resident of the tsunami refugee camp located at Vettuvaikal road at Karaithivu 12.

The motive of the killing may be related to a love affair, the police said.

Sammanthurai police recovered the body Sunday and handed it over to Sammanthurai hospital.

The body was given to the victim's relatives after inquest into the death was held.

The police are investigating into the killing.

Sammanthurai is located 40 km south of Batticaloa.
