906 students selected for Jaffna University

The University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka selected 906 students for the academic year of 2006/07 in Jaffna University, Prof. R. Kumaravadivel, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University said. The name list of the students was received Thursday and 59 students were selected to study Medicine and 17 for Law.
Meanwhile, the processing of appeals made by the Jaffna Peninsula Medicine and Engineering stream students affected in the selections in the university entrance is expected to begin on Friday. 'Myown' Mustafa, the Deputy Minster of Higher Education, instructed the university authorities to investigate every case individually and give redress to the affected students. Students who had sat for the G: C. E. A/L examination in Jaffna district and acquired high marks, but not included in the selection list, had earlier applied for re-scrutiny of their results.
