Sri Lanka's security to be tightened
[TamilNet, Saturday, 31 March 2007, 11:12 GMT]
The Sri Lanka government has drawn up a new security plan that will put into operation with effect from 1 April Sunday across Sri Lanka. Cordon and search operations will be conducted without prior notice throughout the island, and vehicles will be subjected to severe checks, a private electronic media reported quoting Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jayantha Wickremaratne.
DIGs in all police divisions in the island have been informed of the new security plan to thwart any attempt to disrupt law and order during the festive season, Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Meanwhile, the same media reported in its news broadcast that some residents had informed the police sources about an unidentified aircraft sighted over Vavuniya Friday.
