UNP to hold first rally against HR violations in Colombo

The first rally in a series of protest demonstrations to be organized by the main opposition United National Party (UNP) against human rights violations, will be held on April 3 at Grandpass Junction in Colombo, said Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, parliamentarian and UNP Colombo district organizer.

He added that the government is bent on suppressing Tamil people in the name of war against the LTTE. Sinhalese activists who speak against war are also labelled as LTTE supporters. Tamils and Muslims are abducted and being extorted. Those fail to pay ransom are killed. The culprits move freely without any action by the law enforcement authority.

The government should take immediate steps to stop the war and to stop labelling those who demand that legitimate rights of all communities in the country should be safeguarded, as LTTE sympathisers, Ravi Karunanayake told media persons in Colombo.
